10 Foods to boost your immunity

Today the whole world is talking about immunity boosters because of the recent pandemic of COVID 19. It has been proven that the people having good immunity are saved from the attack of the coronavirus and the ones already infected have come out as corona warriors just because they have taken corrective steps and food intake to boost their immunity.

Below listed are some food items which will prove to be good immunity boosters :

Broccoli: It is considered to be the healthiest food on your plate enriched with vitamins A, C, and E and also a good amount of fiber. It is also a good antioxidant. Hence Broccoli is a supercharged food with vitamins and minerals and tops the list of immunity boosters

Garlic: Though garlic is not liked by many due to its strong smell and odor it’s a must-have for your health due to its varied benefits. It can fight chronic infections, lowers blood pressure, and slows down the hardening of the arteries. A sulfur-containing compound such as allicin is considered to be having varied health benefits

Red peppers: Do not go by its color or texture. These bell peppers are considered as having a high source of vitamin C and it is as good as three times in oranges. They are also rich in beta carotene which boosts immunity, contains vitamin A required for good eyesight and vision

Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C which is the first thing people switch too when they are suffering from cold and flu. Doctors are prescribing Vitamin C tablets as supplements to boost immunity and fight COVID 19. Almost all citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C such as grapefruit, oranges, lemon, etc. The main thing about it is, it is not stored in the body hence we need to consume it regularly to keep body resistance strong.

Ginger: Best medicine to treat sore throat and inflammatory illnesses. Treats well with nausea and reduces cholesterol levels as well. People consume lemon ginger tea and also use it in many sweet desserts.

Spinach: Though spinach is popular as a higher source of iron which increases your hemoglobin. It is rich in vitamin C, beta carotene, and works as a good antioxidant. It is suggested to cook least to keep its nutrients intact.

Yogurt: a Favorite of many and especially when consumed in different flavors is a great source of Vitamin D which helps to regulate your immune system. Try to consume it in plain form and prefer adding honey rather than loading it with sugar. It helps in digestion and especially consumed to fight diarrhea

Almonds:  Although almonds rich in vitamin E takes a back seat when we are talking about treating cold. But it is a very good source of antioxidant which is a key to a healthy immune system. However one needs to keep a watch on the consumption as you cant have in large quantities.

Turmeric: We are listening to a lot about turmeric in recent days and every day new benefits of consuming this bright yellow, bitter in taste spice are coming up. It is well known to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is a key ingredient of many curries and people love its color. It has antioxidant properties as well which helps to fight chronic infections.

Green Tea: Green teas are anyways popular as antioxidants. The best thing about green tea is it is available in many flavors and one can switch to them as per preference. It is a good source of amino acid which aids to the production of germ-fighting compounds

These are some suggestions to maintain a good immune system to fight against the recent pandemic and also other health concerns. Although it is always recommended to eat healthy and homemade food during such pandemics as eating outside food makes us more prone to diseases.
